LIVESTRONG Reaches Spanish Speakers with Mobile Site
Austin, TX — Sep 13, 2010
Creative agency Springbox developed a Spanish language mobile site to help LIVESTRONG support Spanish-speaking cancer survivors.
“We want Spanish-speaking survivors to know that LIVESTRONG SurvivorCare offers free, confidential phone support in Spanish. The Hispanic/Latino community actively uses smart phones to access the web, so we are reaching out with a mobile strategy,” said LIVESTRONG Program Manager, Haley Justice-Gardiner.
Keeping high visibility for LIVESTRONG SurvivorCare in mind, Springbox analyzed LIVESTRONGespanol.org site metrics to capitalize on most-visited site resources. The agency recommended a flat, mobile-friendly structure to provide clear access to key support videos and articles with as few page refreshes as possible.
A clean look and feel adapted from the agency’s work on LIVESTRONG.org
pairs with optimized code to keep pages both lightweight and on-brand. “We took complete advantage of what the newest mobile browsers can do while making sure the experience degrades elegantly for older browsers,” said Danny Hummel, Springbox Developer. Nice touches like branded bookmark icons for the iPhone and iPod touch round out the offering.
The resulting mobile site is quick and easy to use. “We were thrilled to have the opportunity to provide a mobile site to the Spanish speaking audience. This site is a testament to LIVESTRONG’s commitment to understanding their audience’s needs and finding a way to communicate with them effectively,” said Becky Fabre, Springbox Account Executive.
And as users adopt the mobile site, LIVESTRONG and Springbox will be watching. Though Google Analytics is typically implemented with JavaScript, some mobile devices (such as the Blackberry) disable it by default. Springbox implemented a C# (.aspx) workaround to send mobile metrics to Google for easy tracking.
