What Inspires You: Part Eleven

by Springbox June 15, 2011

Get to know the people who make Springbox an exceptional agency. What Inspires You? is a series of posts that offer insight into our talented and creative staff.

Trevor Kale

Interactive Producer

What did you do before joining Springbox?

I worked for a start-up medical transportation company running daily operations. The business model was originally built around getting wheelchair-bound people to their doctor appointments, but now has grown beyond that to service Medicaid and insurance companies. Prior to that, I was at GSD&M as a media planner for Norwegian Cruise Line.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find a lot of inspiration in the generosity of people around me. It's amazing to see what people are capable of when they take on a goal and/or become philanthropic toward an issue they care deeply about. I currently sit on an advisory board for Dam that Cancer, which is an organization that two good friends of mine founded; one as a tribute to his own father who is outliving his terminal diagnosis (as of now, by over a year) and the other a survivor himself wanting to shed light on the power of mental health in healing. Their efforts and success in their mission motivate me to approach my own daily challenges with a perspective of their actual gravity.

Which websites have inspired you recently?

Good - The overall brand is about elevation. People, business, environment, tech, whatever. It's all about moving forward and being better. Lots of thought provoking views and awesome infographics to ponder.

Wired - While fairly mainstream, I like their perspective and ability to present culture, technology, politics, etc. in one place with a diversity of interpretations.

Which trends in interactive are you currently paying attention to?

Proximity social media, a.k.a "Checking In." I think it is an interesting part of the landscape that is yet to offer any clear value to the user and lends little control to the locations for "disaster control." I am curious to see what happens as companies, like Gowalla, continue to grow and as business models, like Groupon, start to explore proximity offerings. It will be interesting to see how these companies play to servicing a user and what the PR challenges will be that locations are faced with. In the meantime, I do check in at a lot of places, and I cross my fingers every time that someone doesn't rob my house while I'm out.
